The Riverbank Recreation Department's mission is to provide community through people, parks, and programs. The Department is continually expanding its services and offers a variety of recreation cultural and social activities for all ages and abilities within the City of Riverbank.

The Department currently operates the aquatics program, summer programs, including the summer food program, athletic programs in the gymnasium, a very popular Tot Time Preschool Program, a youth sports development program, and various contract classes. Special events are offered throughout the year such as the Annual Skate Park Competition, the Halloween Haunted Hayride, Easter Egg Hunt, Turkey Trot and the New Year's Eve Pajama Rama. The Recreation Department in the past has been active in Citywide special events such as the Cheese & Wine Festival, Farmer's Market and Christmas Parade.

There are currently 16 City parks that our Parks Department maintains including the new Plaza Del Rio Park. Our Parks Department consists of 5 full time workers, a part time weekend park aide and 2 volunteer park hosts.

Our Building Maintenance staff consists of one full time worker that maintains the City Hall buildings, Sheriff's Department, Public Works buildings, Community Center and Scout Hall. We employ one part time maintenance worker to work on weekends for facility rentals and mid week for facilitly set ups and take downs for various groups.

The Recreation Department oversees the Youth and Teen Committee which is a group that assists the staff in developing programs for youth and teens in the Community. This year construction will begin on the Teen Center building and the goal is for this center to be open and running by January 2011.

Facility use and park/field reservations are handled under the Recreation Department. This includes  scheduling, collecting fees, securing agreements, assignments of site monitors and custodial services. The Department works closely with local organizations & clubs on facility use and with the local sports organizations for field reservations.

The Department oversees park development and serves as a liaison between the Friends of Jacob Myers Park and the City. Grant writing and park master plan development and implementation are responsibilities of the Parks and Recreation Department.

The Recreation Department represents the City in the Stanislaus Elder Abuse Alliance, the Rio Altura Healthy Start Collaborative, and District V of the California Parks and Recreation Society.

Detailed information about all our programs is available on this website and you may also view our Spring/Summer Activity Guide in the Documents Center. Activity Guides are also available at City Hall, 6707 Third Street and the local Library.
