Did you know?

Do you know the way to downtown Riverbank?

What?  I said, “do you know the way to downtown Riverbank?”  It appears that our little City has grown so quickly, the newcomers don’t even realize that the downtown area (northeast Riverbank) exists.

Just a FYI here, Riverbank Crossroads is not a new town; it is the new section of the City of Riverbank.  The old section of town consists of the number streets (First through Eighth Streets, commonly referred to as “downtown”) and the State streets (southeast Riverbank).    The west side of town is the area on the west side of the railroad tracks between the Stanislaus River and Morrill Road.  Anything south of Morrill to Claribel, between the tracks and Oakdale Road is “new”.  Sort of.  Some of the “new” houses are several years old now, but still considered new.  Kind of.

Back to the subject, do you know the way to downtown?  If you drive State Route Highway 108 from McHenry Avenue to the City of Oakdale, you have driven through the northern edge of downtown.  If you stay on Patterson Road, all the way to the Riverbank High School or beyond, you have driven along the southern edge of downtown.  Have you paid your water bill in person?  Or signed up for your water, sewer, and garbage service at City Hall South?  If you did, you were IN DOWNTOWN!!  Isn’t that great?  Now you know where downtown Riverbank is!

Currently the downtown area is getting an infrastructure upgrade – new storm drain pipes, sewer, and water lines are a part of the Downtown Beautification Project.  This part of the construction is Phase One.  It is time consuming, but the finished product will be so welcome.  No more flooding along Santa Fe or in the alley between Third and Fourth Street.  And with the second phase of the project, there will be a new streetscape and the Plaza del Rio, a park at the corner of Third and Santa Fe.

We have some great businesses in the downtown – and they are ALL OPEN DURING CONSTRUCTION!!  Driving may be a little tricky, but most of the streets are open and there are detours in place if one is closed.  Speed limit is 15 mph in the construction zone, so please heed the warning as fines will be doubled.  Come on down and see us!!  We look forward to visiting with you!
