Upcoming Events this Fall

Riverbank’s Recreation Department publishes an event guide twice a year for Riverbank residents which list upcoming events; the latest guide describes what to look forward to during the fall and winter months.  The guide can be picked up at City Hall and is delivered to Riverbank homes as an insert in the Modesto Bee to subscribers.

So what is coming up this fall?  On Saturday, September 30 the third annual Skate Competition will be running at the Riverbank Skate Park located at First and Santa Fe Streets.  This is a great chance to test your skateboard or roller blade abilities and you will compete against some of the best skaters in the area!  Helmets are required and you must have one to participate.  There will be three age groups: 12 & under, 13-17, and 18 & over.  Each contestant will have three minutes to perform a routine in the park and judges will base their decisions on the creativity and originality of the routines.  Trophies to first place, medals to second, and ribbons for third place winners.  Prize money will go to the best of the best and there will be a raffle with some great donated prizes!  Big Daddy DJ will be on hand to provide the music.  Sign-up at the Recreation Department located at 6707 Third Street.

October is a very active and fun month for the City!  The second weekend of October (October 14-15, this year) brings the 30th annual Cheese & Wine Exposition to Riverbank.  This event brings over 60,000 visitors to the downtown area.  The Riverbank Rotary Club is the new host for this grand event and they will set up a wine tasting tent on the lawn next to the Community Center.  The Community Center will house a Cheese Pavilion.  Wine tasting tickets are $20.00 in advance or $25.00 at the door; the cheese pavilion cost $5.00.  For more information on the Cheese & Wine Expo, please call 209-863-9600.

Also during the Cheese & Wine weekend, there will be the Riverbank Fine Arts Sale held at the Antigua Event Center, 3200 Santa Fe Street.  This event is free and open to the public.  Artists from throughout the San Joaquin Valley will display a collection of their works.  For more information contact Luanne Bain at 209-863-7116 or lbain@riverbank.org.

Have you ever been to the Halloween Haunted Hayride?  The Hayride is one of the areas best entertainments for Halloween.  Jacob Myers Park which is located on the north end of the First Street Bridge is transformed in to a very, scary place.  Have you gone through the woods at night?  What may be hiding there this year?  In the past we have seen what looks like a gorilla, but could be Big Foot; headless people walking around; lost little girls who couldn’t find their daddy; and witches offering what looked like brain meatloaf.  Yuk…  What could they possibly concoct this year?  The Hayride runs from October 27 through October 29, and starts at 6:30 p.m.  Dress warmly, this is such a great event the lines can be long.

In November the Recreation Department sponsors the Turkey Trot!  No, we aren’t dancing, it’s a race!  Kids ages 5 to 12 can join the short foot race at Castleberg Park, and maybe win a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner!  You must pre-register for this event to be held on November 21.  Call 209-869-7124.

What’s up next?

Upcoming events for December and January will be part of our focus next month.  If you have any questions or comments, please contact Luanne Bain at lbain@riverbank.org.
