Did you know?
This month we will look at the
recent Ordinance (No. 2005-015) passed by City Council regarding
the new garbage and recycling procedures which go in to effect
on January 1, 2006. Residential rates will increase $1.49,
bringing the current fee up to $17.50 per month.
Gilton Solid Waste Management,
Inc. is Riverbank’s current contractor for the removal of
household waste and items that can be recycled. Residents have
two cans or toters – a black toter for kitchen and bathroom
garbage, and yard waste; and a gray toter for recyclable items
(paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, and plastics). The black
toter is picked up weekly and the gray toter is picked up every
other week. For years many residents have complained that there
just wasn’t enough room for household garbage and yard waste in
the same container, yet many times their recycle can was hardly
full when picked up. Because residents asked for a change in
their service, the City Council asked Gilton to provide other
options for the City.
The City Council chose an
option that best fit the requests of the majority of residents.
Beginning on January 1, residents will continue to use their
black toter for kitchen or household waste, and the gray toter
will now hold yard waste, paper, and cardboard which will be
composted together. No longer will residents throw aluminum or
plastics in the gray container. Residents are asked to put
those items in the black can or take them to your nearest
recycling center for payment.
Beginning January 1, your
household waste and recycle cans will be picked up each week.
Gilton has purchased new trucks with a dual system that
separates the household waste on one side and the recycle
material (yard waste and paper) on the other side. This will
allow your cans to be picked up at the same time by one truck.
Sometimes you find that your
cans may have been missed on your regular scheduled pick-up
day. If that occurs, please call Gilton directly at 527-3781
and they will dispatch an employee to your home.
What is this page about?
This page will focus on City
Codes, State Laws, and other items that may be of interest to
our residents and visitors. Codes and State Law vary from City
to City and State to State, and we are hoping this section will
help take some of the confusion out of our daily practices.
This page will be updated periodically and all articles will
remain accessible through our
Archives. Most articles that
appear here will deal with the Riverbank City Code of
Ordinances, which is available for residents to examine in the
City Clerk’s office located at City Hall – North, 6707 Third
Street, Riverbank or you can access the Code via our website
from the City Council page (click on Municipal Code).
