Did you know?

Don't forget the changes in

your garbage pick-up

January 1, 2006 is the date that the City’s garbage ordinance changes go in to effect.  Discussed in this column two months ago, I described how the changes will affect the residents of Riverbank.  The entire column can be located in the Archives 2006, but I will give a brief summary here.

Items to be placed in your gray toter (the recycling can) include green (yard) waste, paper, and cardboard.  Limbs or branches should be cut short so they fit inside the can with the lid closed.  Any cardboard should be broken down and made flat; this will leave more room in the toter.  Yes, your Christmas tree can be cut down and placed inside the gray toter.

Items to be placed in your black toter will include your normal household garbage, plastic, metal, and aluminum if you don’t recycle at a recycling center.  The Oakdale Recycling Center located at 1477 South Yosemite Avenue in Oakdale is the nearest center and they pay cash (CA redemption) for aluminum, glass, plastic, cardboard, and non-ferrous materials (aluminum, copper, brass, etc.)

Your black toter and gray toters will now be picked up at the SAME DAY – EVERY WEEK.  Gilton Solid Waste Management is the City’s carrier and they have purchased new trucks that keep the garbage separated from the yard waste and paper.  You should put both toters curbside the night before your pick-up day to insure their collection by the truck.  If your cans are not picked up, call Gilton directly at 527-3781.

Further information regarding the garbage ordinance is available in the Archives, and in the City Clerk’s office.

What is this page about?

This page will focus on City Codes, State Laws, and other items that may be of interest to our residents and visitors.  Codes and State Law vary from City to City and State to State, and we are hoping this section will help take some of the confusion out of our daily practices.  Most articles that appear here will deal with the Riverbank City Code of Ordinances, which is available for residents to examine in the City Clerk’s office located at City Hall – North, 6707 Third Street, Riverbank or you can access the Code via our website from the City Council page (click on Municipal Code).

Earlier Did you know? columns can be located in the Archives.
