Did you know?
Miscellaneous Information
The City publishes a bimonthly
newsletter which goes out to every home and business that pays
for City water, sewer, and garbage service. The newsletter is a
single page, double-sided enclosure added to the bimonthly
billing. Because of its size, the articles don’t go in to a lot
of detail but more information can be obtained by calling the
number located in the article or by calling Luanne Bain at
209-863-7116. The City is always looking for newsworthy items
for the newsletter as well as this “Did you know…?” column. If
you have any suggestions or questions you might like to see in
print, please forward them in writing to Luanne at
lbain@riverbank.org or 6707 Third Street, Riverbank CA
95367. Be sure to include your name and a number where you can
be reached in case we need more information or details.
Don’t forget the changes to
your garbage and recycling cans in January. Starting January 1,
your grey recycling toter becomes a container for green waste
(lawn clippings, plant trimmings) and paper (newspaper,
cardboard); the black toter will hold everything else – kitchen
garbage, plastic, glass, and aluminum.
Have you ever heard of the
MOY/COY? MOY/COY stands for Man of the Year and Citizen of the
Year. Originally it was just Man of the Year, but in 1967 a
woman, Glenda Alpers, won the award. It was time to change the
title, so it became MOY/COY. Every person who wins the title
becomes a Committee member. It is the only way to join
officially. For a complete list of winners, call 863-7116.
The City co-hosts the
Community Awards Banquet with the MOY/COY Committee in January
of each year, and the new Citizen of the Year is announced at
that time. Every year, previous MOY/COY recipients vote for the
current year’s award winner. The public is invited to nominate
persons they feel have worked hard to better our community.
Once all nominations are in, the ballots go out to the Committee
for the selection of the winner. This year nominations were
received for Youth of the Year (YOY) too, and like the COY, the
Committee members will make the selection.
This year’s nominees are
Joe Galindo, Jerry
Meyer, and Esther Rosario for Citizen of the Year. Youth of the
Year nominees are Veronica Tovar, Zenaido Arauza, Amanda Nogues,
Allison Holmer, and Ryan Jordan. The Awards Banquet will be
held on Saturday, January 14 in the Community Center. Tickets
are $15.00 per person and are available from MOY/COY Committee
members and at City Hall North – Administrative Services
Department.
What’s up next?
We’ll bring back the ins and
outs of the new garbage and recycling procedures.
What is this page about?
This page will focus on City
Codes, State Laws, and other items that may be of interest to
our residents and visitors. Codes and State Law vary from
City to City and State to State, and we are hoping this section
will help take some of the confusion out of our daily practices. Most articles that
appear here will deal with the Riverbank City Code of
Ordinances, which is available for residents to examine in the
City Clerk’s office located at City Hall – North, 6707 Third
Street, Riverbank or you can access the Code via our website
from the City Council page (click on Municipal Code).
