Turkeys and Christmas

November is here and the Recreation Department is preparing for the Annual Turkey Trot!  No, we aren’t dancing, it’s a race!  Kids ages 5 to 12 can join the short foot race at Castleberg Park, and maybe win a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner!  You must pre-register for this FREE event to be held on November 21.  Call 209-869-7124.

City offices will be closed on the following days in November:

November 10 - Veterans' Day (November 11)     November 23-24 - Thanksgiving Holiday

Following on the heels of the Thanksgiving Holiday, the City will be decking the halls and lighting the trees!  Saturday, December 2 is the date for the 38th annual Community Christmas Parade and the always exciting Christmas Craft and Great Stuff Faire!  Both events are held rain or shine in downtown Riverbank.

The Christmas Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. on Santa Fe Street at Fifth Street.  Led by a Stanislaus County Sheriff Deputy, the parade heads down Santa Fe Street to Second Street where it turns south.  At Stanislaus Street the parade heads east back to the Community Center Park where it disperses.  We see a variety of entries at the parade – floats, horses, Aztec dancers, Fire Engines, bands, antique cars, and of course, Santa Claus!

The Christmas Craft & Great Stuff Faire will be open from 10:00 to 3:00 inside the Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe Street.  Come on in after the parade and you can probably start and finish your Christmas shopping!  You will find a wonderful variety of crafts and beautiful homemade crocheted or knitted sweaters, booties, bonnets, and blankets for baby or for you!  You can purchase a singing Teddy Bear or homemade candles.  Maybe some Tupperware to pack all those Christmas cookies you need to send to family and friends.  If you are hungry, you will find the kitchen open and serving hot dogs and chili with chips and a drink for a nominal fee.

City offices will be closed on the following days in December:

December 25-26 - Christmas Holiday                        December 29 - New Year's Eve (December 31)

City offices will be closed on the following days in January:

January 1 - New Year's Day                                           January 15 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday
