Understanding Your Trash Toters

(or, What goes where?)

Do you know what to put inside your trash toters?  Has the garbage man failed to pick up your gray can, and instead left a note with a number to call?  It may be confusing to residents who have moved to Riverbank from another city as how to use their trash toters.  Here is a quick explanation:

The black toter is for everyday-type trash – kitchen garbage, plastic, Styrofoam, and metal of all kinds.

The gray toter is for green waste – lawn clippings, weeds, branches (less than one-inch in diameter and cut up to fit completely inside the toter), dead plants, leaves, cardboard, and paper.  If you place any other garbage in this container, it will not be picked up.

If you like to recycle your aluminum cans and plastic containers from home, put them in a blue plastic bag and add them to the black can (similar to how Modesto residents recycle).  Blue bags are available at your local grocery store.  If you like to recycle those items yourself, you can take them directly to recycling outlets.  In Riverbank, you can visit one in the parking lot of Star Market, 2622 Patterson Road; or at the O’Brien’s Shopping Center at the corner of Oakdale and Patterson Roads.

Know your garbage pick-up day (call Gilton at 527-3781), cans should go out no earlier than the night before pick-up and should be pulled back off the street after pick-up.  If you work, bringing them back in to your yard that evening is okay.  If you habitually leave your cans in the street for two or three days after pick-up, you may receive a violation from Code Enforcement.

If you have any questions regarding your garbage service, please contact customer service at Gilton Solid Waste Management, Inc. at 527-3781.

What’s coming up next?

Riverbank is growing, and with the building of new homes, Riverbank is also building new parks.  Where are Riverbank’s parks and what equipment is available at each?

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact Luanne Bain at lbain@riverbank.org.
