Did you know?
Water Conservation start
now!
Are you ready to save some
money on your utility bills? And help Planet Earth at the same
time? Do you know where to start?
Water is one of our greatest
resources. We cannot live without it. The human body requires
water daily, as do all warm-blooded animals (including cows,
horses, pigs, and birds) and reptiles. So, how can you help?
Here are ways you can help to conserve water, and the water days
and times for your Riverbank street address.
There are 4 basic ways to save
water –
1)
Economize
2)
Repair Leaks
3)
Install
Water-saving Devices
4)
Reuse Water
Economize
– Be aware of the
amount of water you are using and look for ways you can use less
whenever possible. Never leave the water running and then walk
away from the faucet.
Repair Leaks – A leak of one drop per
second wastes 2,400 gallons per year. Repairing leaking faucets
not only saves water, it will also save you money in the end.
Install Water-saving
Devices
– There are several
different kinds of devices you can purchase inexpensively or
make yourself, such as aerators, flow regulators, and
displacement devices.
Reuse Water – Used water is often
suitable for other purposes: bath water can be reused to water
lawns or shrubs, or for washing your car!
Water Days and Times in
Riverbank
If your address ends in an
even number (0, 2, 4, 6, or 8) you may water your yard on
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
If your address ends in an odd
number (1, 3, 5, 7, or 9) you may water your yard on Monday,
Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
Watering times are the same
for all days. You may water before noon or after 7:00 p.m. To
conserve water, do not water during the heat of the day. Use
low-flow or water saving type nozzles and sprinklers. Set your
sprinkler so the water sprays inside the lawn area, not the
edge. As you water the lawn, the edge will get water too.
Instead of hosing down your
driveway or sidewalk following yard work, use your broom and
sweep the grass clippings back on to your lawn, add to the mulch
pile, or pick up and throw in your gray toter. Did you know
that leaving the clippings on your lawn is actually feeding your
lawn? And in the summer, leaving your grass a little taller,
helps keep it from burning during these hot, dry days!
Drought-Resistant and
Native Plants
There are many
drought-resistant or drought-tolerant plants that thrive in the
Central Valley; visit your local nursery to locate plants that
will liven up your yard without a lot of work.
Water conservation should be
a year-round effort.
Some easy things you can do include turning the faucet off while
brushing your teeth and replacing washers in your hose or
outdoor faucet when they begin to leak. It is easy to repair a
leaky toilet too, just go to the local hardware store and pick
up a repair kit and follow the instructions.
What’s coming up next?
Riverbank is growing, and
with the building of new homes, Riverbank is also building new
parks. Where are Riverbank’s parks and what equipment is
available at each?
