Information
The Riverbank Recreation Department's mission is to provide
community through people parks and programs.. The Department is
continually expanding its services and offers a
variety of recreation cultural and social activities for all
youth, adults, and senior citizens within the City of Riverbank.
The Department currently operates the aquatics program, summer
programs, including the summer food program, athletic programs in
the gymnasium, a very popular Tot Time Preschool Program, a youth
sports development program, after school enrichment programs and various contract classes.
Special events are offered throughout the year such as the
Annual Skate Park Competition, the Haunted Halloween Hayride,
Easter Egg Hung, Turkey Trot and the New Year's Eve Pajama Rama.
The Recreation Department is active in Citywide special events
such as the Cheese & Wine Festival, Farmer's Market and
Christmas Parade.
There are currently 11 City parks that our Parks Department
maintains. We will be adding the Riverbank Sports Complex,
Harless Park, and Sorensen Park this year.
Our Building Maintenance staff consists of two full time workers
that maintain the City Hall buildings, Sheriff's Department,
Public Works buildings, Community Center and Scout Hall. We will
be adding a part time maintenance worker this year to work
predominately on the weekends for facility rentals.
The Recreation Department oversees the Youth and Teen Committee
which is a group that assists the staff in developing programs
for youth and teens in the Community. This year, the main goal
will be to raise funds for the Teen Center and work with an
Architect to design the center.
Facility use and park/field reservations are handled under the
Recreation Department, which includes the scheduling of events in
the Community Center, Scout Hall, and Community Gymnasium. This
involves scheduling, collecting fees, securing agreements, and
assigning staff to monitor the events. The Department works
closely with various organized youth sports teams such as Little
League, Youth Football and Soccer, and schools to offer positive
social and recreational options for all youth and teens within
the community.
The Department oversees park development and serves as a liaison
between the Friends of Jacob Myers Park and the City. Grant
writing and park master plan development and implementation are
responsibilities of the Parks and Recreation Department.
The Recreation Department represents the City in the Stanislaus
Elder Abuse Alliance, the Rio Altura Healthy Start
Collaborative, and District V of the California Parks and
Recreation Society.
