YOUTH of the Year 2019 Scholarship Guidelines
The Riverbank Youth of the Year is sponsored annually by the Riverbank Citizen of the Year Committee (a group of dedicated volunteers serving the Riverbank Community since 1962). The goal of the committee is to recognize the dedication and contributions of youth that have given selflessly of their time and talents to the Riverbank Community; this recognition also comes with a monetary scholarship.
The 2019 year scholarship application process has changed from the previous years where the community (usually teachers, school counselors, family or friends) nominated the youth for the award. This year youth will be given the opportunity to apply for this scholarship themselves. The Citizen of the Year Committee wants to learn from the youth themselves what and how they contribute to our Riverbank community. Scholarship amounts range from $100- $1000 at the discretion of the COY Committee. The application deadline is 5:00 pm on January 10, 2020.
Applications will be evaluated by the active members of the Citizen of the Year Committee. This scholarship is a one-time cash award payable directly to the recipient. Funds must be applied towards tuition or books, and the winner will need to provide confirmation of college or trade school acceptance and attendance. The winner will be announced at the annual Citizen of the Year awards dinner scheduled for March 7, 2020. Youth, family, and friends are asked to attend the dinner and support the applicants. Dinner tickets for the award dinner will be available by 2/10/20 (at a cost of $25 per ticket) call 209-863-7153 for ticket information.
The Citizen of the Year Committee will evaluate all letters equally and fairly in the event that an applicant is a friend or relative of a committee member that committee member will abstain from voting for the final winner. In the event of a tie, the committee reserves the right to contact the applicant for more information or the committee can decide to split the award. All and final decisions will be made by the active members of the Citizen of the Year Committee.
